Congratulations! You’ve earned your accounting degree. Here are two entry-level jobs you might take to build your work experience.

Staff Accountant

As a staff accountant, you’ll be responsible for compiling financial information, processing journal entries in various accounts, and reconciling financial data and reports. Your duties would include preparing reports, records, classification, and summaries of financial events and transactions according to generally accepted accounting principles. You’d verify documents’ compliance and completeness with private and government agencies. You’ll create and maintain balance sheets, income statements, and cash flow analysis for the company’s clients. Eventually, you could move up to senior staff accountant and later manager or partner.

Junior Auditor

You might become a junior auditor. You’d work with a senior auditor to ensure companies’ financial records comply with business and accountancy ethics and regulations. You’ll work with the senior auditor to plan audits and talk to clients about audit preparations. During the audit you’d check expenditures, revenue, and other financial documents to verify the numbers are accurate, regulations adhered to, and payments classified and recorded. You’d help prepare the discussion draft of the audit report and attend meetings with the client and senior auditor to complete your audit report. After earning your CPA, you may continue as an auditor or move to another specialty, such as taxation. You could become a finance director, accounting manager, controller, CFO  or CEO.
